Is my landlord required by law to provide me with a tenancy agreement? I'm in trouble

I know this however there would be lots of otherstuff invalidating it... like isn't the landlord legally required to give you his contact address? Which is generally on the AST contract.
No address, no rent!
I live with six other people that I get on well with now, if I didn't pay it would reflect badly with me and them. We also transfer our rent money over to one person in the houses bank account and then they pay it to LL.
I need this tenancy agreement as quick as poss! Worrying0 -
The same thing applies to your house-mates: if no-one has a tenancy agreement with formal notice of the LLs name and address, or a separate notice with that info in writing then no-one's rent is collectable, until the LL complies.
Landlord & Tenant Act 1987, S48.
Notification by landlord of address for service of notices.(1) A landlord of premises to which this Part applies shall by notice furnish the tenant with an address in England and Wales at which notices (including notices in proceedings) may be served on him by the tenant.Do see a tenancy relations officer - you are entitled to this very basic information, plus the terms of your tenancy, regardless of whether you are paying the rent yourself or claiming LHA
(2) Where a landlord of any such premises fails to comply with subsection (1), any rent or service charge otherwise due from the tenant to the landlord shall (subject to subsection (3)) be treated for all purposes as not being due from the tenant to the landlord at any time before the landlord does comply with that subsection.
(3) Any such rent or service charge shall not be so treated in relation to any time when, by virtue of an order of any court, there is in force an appointment of a receiver or manager whose functions include the receiving of rent or (as the case may be) service charges from the tenant.0 -

The thing is though, some of the other people who live at the house have been here for 3 years and have previously signed an agreement. They also will have no intention of upsetting the landlord, as the rent is very cheap compared to other places in zone 2 in london, so if i suggested that none of us pay it, it would go down like a lead balloon and I would greatly upset my housemates.0 -
I really don't understand why the LL isn't being more helpful. Maybe even a note from him would help?FREEDOM IS NOT FREE0
