I know it gives faster network speeds,
but does wireless N give a better geographical range than the older standards?

- Just ordered one (with usb adaptor) so I should be able to answer that question very shortly..

My experience was that it made little difference so I sent my expensive N router back and reverted back to G.

It's supposed to, but don't hold your breath.

Always found wireless to be utterly useless in our buildings, so we are all hard wired, removed any security risk with sensitive data too.

I echo those sentiments. Speed is not the same as range and I was seduced by the pretty pictures on the box. I know I'm easily led and weak!
At the moment I'm sat in my kitchen and have two bars on my 'n' router can also see a 'g' router that has three bars. Though my data transfer speed is pretty good and I haven't noticed any difference compared to a wired connection.

  • Hi,

N is not ratified as of yet but will be the end of the year/beginning of next.
it doesnt have a better range just a faster throughput.

Laptop is bringing up next door's bt hub as good as the Belkin router - 20 yards, a hedge and 2 walls away.
Not impressed by the Belkin usb wireless stick at all.

I'd agree with all above - not much difference really.
  • it has a higher theoretical range, but in practice you prob wouldnt notice.. just better thruput when in range.

I'd be tempted to go for Homeplugs (google them) if wireless signal is an issue... They're quite up to streaming DVDs etc..
