They will tell you it's free- I promise you it won't be. Please cancel your appt with DFD as soon as you can- they are known for playing on your worries and will encourage you to sign up tomorrow. Why not post up your SOA (list of incomings and outgoings, debt and interest rates) and everyone on here will do their best to spot anything that you may have missed. If it comes to it at that point you can speak to CCCS or payplan... but please don't do a panic reaction by signing up to something that ultimately may cost you more money in the long run.Don't suffer alone - if you are experiencing Domestic Abuse contact the National Domestic Abuse Helplines

I've leave other more knowledgable people to comment on your last post.
I think you should post a SOA (Statement of Accounts) so people can advise you on where you can start saving money.0 -
Don't panic love, just get a list of everything you pay out, and write it all down. Then put down what you bring in, including any benefits. Post it up on here so we can all take a look, and help you cut down in areas you can save on. This is what these debt management (free or otherwise) ask from you anyway, so might as well crack on and get it done.
Think National Debt line are free, but you mentioned you were signing up with someone else. These people basically take a cut out of your debt payment before it goes to your creditors, that's how they make their money. Why do this when other people like CCCS do t for free? Then 100% of what you pay goes on your debt.
You also need to work out how you got into debt so it doesn;t happen again! Start keeping a spending diary - write down absolutely everything you spend. You'll soon see where it all goes! This year I'm getting organised once and for all, and going to buy a house with my wonderful other half. And that' s final!
Current Pay Off Target : £1500 :mad:0 -
Beth,
All I can say is that the cccs helped me so so so so much and they are always there at the end of the phone line or answering e-mails, and every penny that I pay them is going straight into my debt. I cant recommend them highly enough.
Take care, and good luck
LBM - Jan 14th 2008 - and not a moment too soon!
Total debt £54,764 (ish) at LBM!!!
DMP now organised, £502pm for 110months! Debt Free Date - June 2018!!!!0 -
hang on, do debt free direct charge a fee? There are charities that do the same thing for free so that whatever you're paying, it all comes off the debt. They're called Payplan, CCCS and Citizens Advice Bureau.
I don't think the charities will take bonuses into account as it's not guaranteed, but I'm not 100% sure about that.
Wow, how long did it take to get your debt down so low???
Has your credit rating been seriuosly affected???

It's taken me a few years, but it's not as impressive as it looks - half of it is gone because there's no CCA, and a big chunk of it was because I sold my car. The rest has been there for about a year now because I'm on income support and don't really have much to throw at it. Not sure how it'll come down, I'm determined to start saving and then I can offer f&fs, even if it takes ages.
As for my credit rating - completely trashed. Most of my debts are/have been at DCA's. To be honest, one of the reasons I'm scared to deal with my debts more is that in six years I'd be able to apply for credit again, and as I have bipolar I worry I'll have another episode and end up here again.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0 -
I everyone tomorrow i will write everything down on here, which i have done so far on paper which was very scary ,thats when i got a shockk how much i owed . i,ve realized HOW EASY TO GET INTO DEBT IS WISH IT WAS AS EASY TO GET OUT OF LIZ 0 -
Just to clarify
National Debtline - Website: National Debtline Telephone: 0808 808 4000
are on Martin's aproved list. And the OP said were recommended by CAB.
Debt Free Direct - These are the ones you need to avoid - and others that will charge you a fee and take a cut of money that should be going to creditors.
Please clarify which one you are dealing with.
Also why not pop an SOA up on here and we can have a look over it for you.
All the best.Making my money go further with MSE :j
