Does anyone know where you can get a cheap contact lens exam, one where they give you the prescription so you can order your lenses online?

I ask because I called Boots re: the health club voucher for a free eye test. Not only does it not cover a consultation for contacts, but it costs £35 for the initial consultation AND they won't give you a prescription to use elsewhere for the first three months -- you *must* buy the contacts from them.

There's gotta be a better deal out there. Anyone?

the SA who served me this morning wouldn't accept the 500 points wys £10 on skincare because it had a different name from that on the advantage card. Maybe it was because i had more than one voucher and she spotted the name difference on the vouchers. anyway i said I would leave it cos i only bought it for the points. She was quite happy to void the lot then just put the fragrance and a magazine (marie claire) through. will try another store tomorrow.

Hi Skibster, Vision Express charges £35 one off fee and gives you prescription. They are not fussed about whether you are going to buy the lens from them or not. While I know my local Optical Express and Specsavers do not like it. So basically Vision Express will charge you £35, give you prescription for 6 months (which you can use it online), then you go for a follow-up check and they give you another 6 months/1 year.

    Hope it helps.

I think by law they HAVE to give you a prescription!! I have used them before for contact lens checks- I was charged £40 for the consultation and then given a prescription to buy the lenses online. Alternatively, I think if you are going to buy the lenses from them they will give you a discount on the price on the consultation.
They are not allowed to make you buys lenses from them!! Try calling in maybe and having a chat with them. You might have been unlucky and got someone who was unsure of the system when you called

Tesco offer contact lens examination for £10 whereby they give you the prescription but not the measurements? I am not sure what they mean by that but I have my appoiintment booked for this Saturday so I will soon find out!
  • Went to both branches of Boots in Cambridge yesterday. Bought NOTHING.
Saw 3 Sanctuary Mother's Day Bags in big branch though. Couldn't remember what the deal was with these - had it scanned, SEL says £20 and it scanned at same price so didn't buy.

On a more productive note, I did manage to partly salvage my careless omission of 200pts mag suncare coupon when I bought No7 dark spot stuff last week.... I found a No7 fake tan correction wipe on clearance at a tiny local branch for 50p and used it with that:T
