Bedroom Flooring

Looking for advice on what to do with my bedroom flooring.

Ive just had the Walls skimmed, ready for base coat and then the colour of my choice.

I want to do the painting and also gloss the skirting Boards accordingly, however i need to decide whats best for my Flooring, to determine the level of effort on the skirting boards.

At present there is carpet and underlay.

I checked the floorboards as id planned maybe to sand down and varnish.

They seems to be in good condition, a couple of large gabs between plans but nothing major. the only problem, is there is a rectangle of Concrete in one section, where a Fireplace used to be. So it rules out my sanding n varnishing option.

What else could i do apart from just re-carpet. I took some pics too

  • What about sanding and varnishing as per your original plan and putting a nice piece of furniture on the contcrete bit? (depends where in the room it is)

The floorboards look IMHO :D just standard, so with all the effort of sanding etc , I would have a cheap carpet .

I am planning to put white coloured cork in my new bedroom!

I didn't really want carpet, but was worried about noise levels and wanted something warm under foot. You can get cork in different couloured shades these days, but not many places sell it, I had to receive a sample by post. It costs about £18 psm plus VAT, I think you can lay it yourself.

I wouldn't be too keen on sanding up a floor where a plumber or electrician has already had the boards up and cut them, but if you are, why not buy a bedroom fireplace from ebay, paint it up and have a little hearth over the concrete :)
Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

do u think laying laminate flooring over the top is a good idea?
this will then hide the boards that have been cut up

maybe leaving the present carpet underlay there, that might level out the top part where the concrete is

I just had my bedroom floor carpeted It was okay floor in places but where tradesman have been like lecky man and plumber a they obviously mess the boards up

I got a new under lay and a decent 80% wool carpet with dense thickness to it. First time I ever had a decent carpet.

If you opt for laminate bare in mind noise, same with wood floors it can be noisy and make room cold

We have dining room/ living room, hallway and 2 bedrooms laminated. Our bedroom and stairs, landing are carpeted. bathroom vinyl flooring kitchen is floor tiles

I find laminate also dust gathers in certain areas, not hard to keep clean though but our new carpet is so soft and fluffy

I've fitted both laminate and engineered wood flooring in all the rooms of my house with the exception of the stairs which is carpetted and the kitchen and bathroom which is tiled.
