travelcitydirect worries

has anybody flown to florida with tavelcitydirect recently, especially within the last couple of months, as we are going in 5 weeks, and have just been reading some reviews that are not too favourable at all, people saying that they have changed there planes to smaller planes, meaning a fuel stop in canada, they said they have recieved a letter beforehand to say this was gonna happen, i have had no such letter as yet, just wondering if anybody has experianced this, or any other bad/good things about them, as this is our first holiday abroad and getting worried now that something is not quite right, 1 reviewer even went on to say they think travelcity will end up folding in the near future, any help gratefully recieved, Dave

My advice is to actually pick up the phone or e-mail them to ask.
As long as you paid your bill with a credit card your money will be safe whatever happens.

We went in May with them, it was a thomas Cook flight going and an XL coming back. No problems with them at all, we are planning on going back in 2010, and wouod use them again. The plane going out was better than coming back as each seat had its own mini TV so you could choose what you wanted to watch, coming back there was 1 from the ceiling of the cabin with
no choice for you, you had to watch what was on. But this is a night flight so everyone is trying to sleep.

Once we booked it originally, we kept getting letters saying the flight times had changed but nothing drastic.

I have booked with Travel City 4 times. I have never had any cause for concerns when travelling with them. The planes can be a little old but nothing to complain or worry about. ( I am not the best of flyers!) This year we are off to Forida again for our 6th visit however, were are traveling with Virign Atlantic as we are going for 3 weeks and Travel City do not offer flights over 14 days or they would have been our first port of call!! Don't forget that the flights include all your meals & drinks including alcohol. The kids drinks are Ribenna cartons etc.

Last time we went I called to request seats at the front of the cabin for extra leg room. There is a charge for this but can be well worth it. However, the lady I spoke to advised that they were all booked up but would get us as close to the front as possible. She actually put us in the nose below the pilots cabin. It was fantastic and we had are own cabin crew to a small amount of people, this is where first class would sit. (Might be worth giving them a call to enquiry?) Plus there was NO extra charge.

Personally I cannot see them folding as they are by far the cheapest to get to the State. Only grip is the price for their car hire. If you can cancel I would and book direct. Your savings should help to cover your fuel costs.

I can only think the they are using smaller planes because of the oil crisis. We were in the US when hurricane Frances hit and we had to stop in Boston to refuel due to shortages in Florida. We were only on the ground for approx 30 minutes. It is priorty to get you fuelled and back on your way.

Try http://www.travelsupermarket.com/c/cheap-car-hire/usa/florida/?p=0 for your car hire.

Hope you have a fantastic holiday.

Perhaps check your travel insurance and see if 'airline insolvency' is excluded or included.

probably worrying about nothing, i have only seen it said by this one woman who left a really bad review on a site, and she probably said it out of anger, just a bit concerned at all the bad reviews that are popping up lately really

Don't forget you can't please all the people all the time!! BA and the such get bad reviews also. I am sure that everything will be fine and you will have a great time. I know that Orlando will not let you and your family down.
  • we have flown to Florida 3 times with TCD and once to New York. Great everytime, never been delayed no problems of any kind. We were in Florida when Hurricane Charlie hit and went right over Orlando causing massive amounts of damage to among other things, Sanford Airport. As a result we were unable to fly home for three days TCD put us up in a top quality hotel for the extra nights and organised taxis etc to and from the airport. The only bad part of that was that there were hardly any staff at the airport after the hurricane - partly because the local employees had to look after their own homes and families and partly because several had got sick of the abuse they were getting off the british TCD passengers who were delayed!! obviously it was TCD employees fault that a hurrican had destroyed half of Florida and left aeroplanes upside down on the runway!!

As avedajunkie states, they are cheap(ish) and in travel just like anything else you get what you pay for. Everyone wants a first class holiday at economy prices....

    Enjoy your holiday.
