My son has had a hairdressing salon for almost three years now. His electric meter has been read regularly and he has been billed by Bizz energy. He has just recieved a bill from E-on for £7800.00 who claim they have been supplying his shop. The shop was empty and had been for at least a year before my son moved in and had it renovated. The contract with Bizz Energy was set up when my son took over the premises. Can anyone please give us any advice on this

Are EON claiming they 'were' supplying his shop for the period before Bizz enrgy took over, or supplying during the time Bizz were being paid?

i.e. is it an old debt they are claiming?, a current debt? or a mixture of both?

They are claiming to have been supplying the shop during my sons lease although he has never had a bill or any communication from them other than this bill for £7800. All contact has been with Bizz Energy

Probably best to first contact Biz Energy to make them aware of what EON are saying and see what they say.

Hopefully, they'll clarify things i.e that EON are not the supplier, or at least that Biz Energy are the supplier (since they've obviously been billing/charging your son) and then get onto EON to see why they think they are the supplier when a supply contract has always been in place from Biz Energy. In particular what proof do they have your son has entered into any agreement with EON.

Well they cant have any proof of a contract because until now he didnt even know they existed, surely in three years he would have had some contact from them if they were his supplier???? He has contacted Bizz energy who arent that useful, they said they think they are supplying his electric, it all seems such a mess, my son is beside himself with worry, the only thing my son can come up with is could it be possible he has been paying someone elses bill while his has gone unpaid? Although as I said surely he would have had some sort of bill from e-on before now

    Very odd!

As far as EON are concerned, perhaps they had a contract with a previous business at the address. If EON didn't know otherwise perhaps they've been adding to the old account addressed to the original account holder who's mailing address could be somewhere entirely different.
Now they realise the old account holder wasn't there for the last 3 years (may even have gone bankrupt) - they've just assumed the current occupier took over the account.

As for Biz Energy, either they can confirm they are your son's supplier or (a) stop paying them and (b) get them to refund all the money your son has been giving them.

Could it be Biz Energy didn't inform EON properly when they took over the supply contract for the address?
