Is anyone convinced by the arguments I heard this morning on radio that rising commodity prices do not represent 'inflation' since they are taking place in isolation from general price rises (the operational definition of inflation)?
And it that one doesn't stick there's always something called 'core' inflation - which seems to be almost defined as: "the index of the most price stable items". So if reality is catching up (i.e. the price rises 'leak' out and become generalised) you then claim that's 'unreliable' and drill down to the core to see what it says.

It'll be interesting to watch the aftermath of a rate tightening cycle by Trichet, if that's the route he chooses, very interesting indeed.Hope for the best.....Plan for the worst!

If it was his decision maybe...but his vote count the same as everyone else's and there will be enough voices against him for the ECB to hold.
You're right though.........if the ECB do raise, then it'll be very very 'Interesting' indeedBenny tells Americans: don't be unduly concerned about price inflation :rotfl: What IS he on??
