This page explains how to go about applying for tickets for the 2009 ballot. Good luck. Just make sure you get forms back by the deadlines as they are quite strict on this!

Alternatively you can just turn up around 11am most days and pay Ground Admission. This ranges between £20 and £5 depending on which day you go on and at what time of day you go in to the ground (prices for Ground Admission are cheaper in the second week and after 5pm in the evening). Ground Admission gets you on to all courts apart from Centre Court and No 1 Court and you can upgrade to Centre Court or No1 Court after 5pm for £5 (a lot of the corporate hospitality guests go home at that time.)

    See http://aeltc.wimbledon.org/en_GB/about/tickets/tickets_prices.html

Since Ground Admission prices went up a fair bit two years ago its now rare to find a day (apart from the first Saturday) when you won't get in on a Ground Admission ticket.

It was 1 hour and 51 minutes long actually and that was for only two sets. Had it gone to the third set it would have been close to three hours.

You are clearly talking about some of the short and unexciting womens finals of other years rather than about this year's truly excellent Womens Final.

The body metal detectors and scanners were in place when we last went in 2006.

Centre/No 1 Court prices this year were:

    Monday 23rd/Tuesday 24th: £38 / £36
    Wednesday 25th/Thursday 26th: £47 / £44
    Friday 27th/Saturday 28th: £57 / £53

    Monday 30th/Tuesday 1st: £65 / £60
    Wednesday 2nd: £75 / £68

    Following, No 1 Court only:

    Thursday 3rd: £45
    Friday 4th: £30
    Saturday 5th: £28
    Sunday 6th: £25

For me, it was better paying £114 on the first 2 days for 3 tickets than £225 on the 2nd Wednesday.

At least on the first two days you do get to see some Brits play, but if you are on a budget and want to go later on, as you can see from above, the No 1 court prices do reduce if you're prepared to queue.

To get Centre Court seats closest to the action, then you are better aiming to join the queue for around 06:00, but remember you can only pay by CASH at the turnstiles.

The new Court 2 opens next year, so with more seats available within the grounds, perhaps the AELTC will let Ticketmaster have a bigger allocation of tickets? Probably not . . .

I went on the first day last year. There is no need to have Centre Court or No 1 Court tickets on the first day as big names play on all the courts. However the matches are all generally one sided against complete no hopers. Personally I don't find that at all exciting. In the second week if there are no rain delays and especially from Tuesday in the second week you do need Centre or No1 Court tickets to see any of the top matches with the main seeds. However you can always get resale tickets for £5 for Centre Court and No1 Court after 5pm and especially after 6.45pm (when corporate hospitality guests go home) on any day. If Andy Murray is playing after 5pm though there may be a long queue for these.

Yes but he also failed to exceed Borg's record yesterday and thus make himself the only man since Wimbledon became a serious world class tennis tournament (around 1920) to win more than 5 singles in a row. That was why Borg was there again to watch. Borg can now return to Sweden a happy man and/or invite Federer to lunch to compare notes on what it is like to have one's winning run cut off by a young upstart.

Borg won the first of his titles in 1976, aged 20, Federer was aged 21 when he won his first in 2003 (same age as Sampras in 1993 with his first). Based on that, Borg's record should be safe for a few more years and no doubt he'll remind people of that should anyone get to 6 consecutive men's singles titles.

When Becker won his first title in 1985 as the youngest Men's title holder (aged 17), he also joined Schroeder (back in 1949) by winning the Championships losing the most sets.

Well, that was really off the topic!

    :D
