I am grateful to this forum for recommending Energywatch, who are now taking up my brother's dispute with Scottish Power. It is an immense relief he says that he no longer gets uncivilised phone calls from them. However, I watched a Parliament programme on tv recently, and I'm pretty certain the discussion said that Energywatch will cease in October. I just wonder what will happen to the dispute process at that time?

I believe the plan is for them to merge with the National Consumer Council & Postwatch
- seems an odd combination but there you go!"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
The new energy ombudsman service is starting to take over at the moment and will take over where energywatch left off as far as I'm aware.

We'll be thrown to the dogs. Although that's already happened to the poorer members of society*
The fact they use an org.uk address makes them no different than ASDA or the NHBC. They have 'members' = billion pound private companies that pay for the service to cover their profiteering with a gloss.
*"I think we've been through a period where too many people have been given to understand that if they have a problem, it's the government's job to cope with it. 'I have a problem, I'll get a grant.' 'I'm homeless, the government must house me.' They're casting their problem on society. And, you know, there is no such thing as society. There are individual men and women, and there are families. And no government can do anything except through people, and people must look to themselves first. It's our duty to look after ourselves and then, also to look after our neighbour. People have got the entitlements too much in mind, without the obligations. There's no such thing as entitlement, unless someone has first met an obligation."
Prime minister Margaret Thatcher, talking to Women's Own magazine, October 31 1987

Hi Roy, so agree with your post, Jemma.
From reading some of the threads here you would think people had solved their problems, simply by switching suppliers or getting a better tariff.
Surely saving the energy already paid for is the answer.
Until recently I received regular newsletters from OFGEM, they really are bogged down with trivia, an organisation LOST.
P.s....there is a letter in Ofgem archive from Ebico complaining they were not consulted re prepayment meter discussions....would you believe it, the industries most sympathetic provider NOT CONSULTED.0 -
Premier is right, it's being merged with the National Consumer Council and Postwatch.
Ofgem is to regulate the industry rather than help consumers who have issues.
The Energy Ombudsman will be where to go in the future as I can imagine once the merge has taken place, things would be as good as they were with energywatch!Ebico worker0 -
I suspect that the powers that be have binned Energywatch because there are so many complaints that it has become an embarrassment. The new setup will likely water down the figures and/or accountability in some way. Watch this space.0
