Being a student again - any tips

Hi

Need to finish a postgrad course (by doing the thesis!) and i need to re-enrol/re-register after a gap of a few years, which means i will officially be a student again - are there any particular benefits of being a student now - bank accounts i must have, loans i could get etc.

Also, how easy/hard is it to stop the student loan people to stop taking your money - could they offer some sort of rebate for when not earning, and being a student again?

Hope this all makes sense

well, you likely won't be able to have a student account again, but abbey do a postgrad account
if you're not earning over the student loans threshold, they shouldn't take anything off you.
Make sure you get your council tax exemption form (if you live alone, or with other students, you pay nowt, if you live with someone who works, they get 25% off
  • does anyone know what the student loans threshold is?Also, are there two companies that take a bit of the loans back? Think there was some sort of partnership deal done - well my bank statements show two separe payments with regards to taking the loan back.

Heard about Career Development Loans before when i was a proper student - didnt get one because didnt feel as though i needed it - may be tempted if they are worth it. Was in enough debt as it was with the regular student loans, so didnt fancy taking on moe debt.
  • does anyone know what the student loans threshold is?

You only pay back once you earn over £15000 per annum.
  • ok thanks for that will have to get on the phone to see if i can get any payments back
  • My loan(s) was one of those that had been "sp;it" between SLC and the student Honours Company.

Rang SLC and they said i shouldnt be having to pay it off at the mo, but their repayments dep't was closed, so will have to ring back.

Honours company said that i shouldn't be having to pay it back and i can only reclaim 3months worth of payments - asked if that was the most they could give back and they said none at all - even though i shouldnt have been having to pay it back anyway.
