Making a will

Has anyone had experience of using a dedicated will making firm as opposed to using a solicitor? Are there any details of cost comparisons or any disadvantages with not using a solicitor?

Moved to a more suitable board where you might get more help.
  • Not sure if this helps but a number of Charities (e.g. Cancer Research at http://legacies.cancerresearchuk.org/legal_profs/freewill_service.asp?fs=1) offer a free will writing service! Whilst there is no obligation they are obviously looking for you to bequeath them something... but I reckon a bequest of £500 or whatever in x years time (where x is hopefully a high number :) is not a bad return for a service that you get today

Did mine through a local solicitor.

Am happy with the service, price and of course peace of mind, getting my affairs sorted. I have a copy, they have a copy.

Listened again on the radio how families can get torn apart by intestacy.

No help to the OP I am sorry..

I heard from a friend that you just need a 4 day training course to become a will writer and if you use a solicitor you get a fully trained person who would be better qualified. Is this true?

I am currently using a solicitor but I am thinking of moving over to a will writing comany and i am not sure if the will writing company is less qualitied. My will is complicated so I suppose that I would need to use a solicitor.
