How many years ago was that?
He could potentially have piles too if he sits on a cold hearth stone.

a) Seeing it for yourself.
b) Being a 100% sure that the OP is not guilding the lilly.0 -
Personally, I always found listening to Roy Harper quite uplifting, but then one day I saw him driving down Kilburn High Road in a open topped Roller, which made me very depressed. He'd totally conned me, misrepresenting himself as following the carefree hippie lifestyle. What a blow! Later, I found out that he owned a black 'n white mansion in Herefordshire. My misery was complete.
Perhaps I could still sue him??0 -
Anybody who drives down Kilburn high rd in an open topped anything wants their bumps feeling. Like Beirut on a Friday night so it is, to be sure.0

I know sweetie thats why I said potentially.
It sounded like it'd been done a long time ago - little chance of finding installer, being able to verify it wasn't done right according to regs etc etc.
However faulty gas fire would only have affected person whilst it was working and any GP worth their salt would pick up on the symptoms of winter only stuff. (at least after 3 years)
I didn't think councils let you install your own gas stuff without jumping through dozens of safety hoops anyway.
The OP should certainly mention it to their GP though next time they go.0 -
No you can't sue the council as you had the gas fire fitted privately yourself.
The council is only responsible for the appliances it fitted itself and are named in your tenancy agreement. The gas check of the other appliances is just a precautionary check to ensure you don't blow up your property and your neighbours.
The council has actually been very nice to you for replacing your fire when it wasn't their responsibility. They should have made you pay as they did not fit the original fire in the first place. I suggest you get on with your life.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

Depression is often worse in winter caused by lack of sunlight (Seasonal Affective Disorder -SAD). One of the symptoms is extreme tiredness. My husband used to get it every winter before we went to Spain and even in Spain he has mild doses.
I think if you arranged to have the gas fire fitted yourself there will be no comeback against the Council.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -

I suppose we will just have to conclude that he is just a miserable sod in winter time - to be honest, I know how he feels.0 -
