My TV is buzzing!!

Options
Hi, can anyone help?
I have just been given a 28 inch widescreen Sony TV from a mate of mine who has just bought a plasma. I assume it must be a good 5 - 6 years old.
It is in fantastic condition sound and picture wise, however it makes what I can only describe as an interferance type noise constantly through the terrestrial channels and the Sky channels, if I press mute, the sound stops so its obviously a signal noise not an internal workings noise. I have tried all the setup buttons but to no avail.
Any ideas anyone???

Thanks

Sounds drastic: give the TV a whack. If the sound stops then you probably have a vibrating component. I know that my Samsung 21inch, of about the same age, whistled constantly after a few years, especially when showing white or bright pictures.

Fortunately repair was just as expensive as a new telly.
    Super geek.
  • Will give it a try thanks

Moving the Skybox away from the TV may cure it.

If you have two remotes that each work the volume then that may be the problem. I find that if I keep the analogue volume control low and the digital (freeview) control high then there is no buzzing on the digital channels but if I have them the other way round then I get irritating buzzing.
Try alternating which remote sets the volume high and which sets it low and see if that helps
