Buying Share or Stock

Hi,
I am interested to buy some shares. But I am slightly confused about it. I looked at some of the FTSE 100 companies, their current share price is let said £3.00. So when I buy the share, can I buy one unit of share priced at £3.00 or I need to buy 1000 units of share, so at £3000 in total. Which one is it?
Can I buy may be 10 units, so cost me £30? Is it this is the right logic?

If you take RBS as an example, their share price is shown as
228.25 sell
228.50 buy
That's in pence, so if you bought 100 shares you'd pay 100* 228.50 (the buy price), i.e. £228.50
(excluding any trading charges and stamp duty).Debbie0 -
Thanks Debbie42,
Is there any minimum share I can buy? such as 10 or one.0 -
I don't think there's any actual limit as to how many you can buy, though the charges would be a pretty big overhead on buying very small amounts,
My broker charges £12.50 per trade, so if I bought, say, one RBS share I'd pay £12.50 + £2.29 + stamp duty. So that one share (worth £2.28) has cost me £14.79. It would have to increase in value several times before I'd get my money back.Debbie0 -
Just another point, always make sure to do your own research when deciding to buy shares, don't relay on others to give you hot tips and recommendations. Their is no such thing as a gurantee in this business.0
