Odd request: How to stop fruit putrefying...forever!

HI all
Just trying an experiment.. I have a Yam (not fruit, veg actually,) and I am thinking of varnishing it to seal it to preserve it. Is this likely to work, to stop it breaking down (putrefying?) for ever?
Don't want to do it and find one day it has split and leaked smelly mouldy insides everywhere! Any alternative advice appreciated, as long as it aint a wind up!
cheers

No it will not work, it might slow down the decomposition but it will still rot from the inside.

There are several ways you can preserve it, but most will alter the physical appearance. A couple of ways from the top of my head are to dry it completely or pickle it in vinegar or alcohol.0 -
My brother used to work in an acrylic moulding factory - they would seal literally anything inside that stuff! Insects, plants, you name it. Not sure why they didn't rot - I'd go for formalin myself, but it's restricted now unless you have friends in medical/biological trades.IT Field Service Engineer, 20 years with screwdriver and hammer
