I want an external hard drive so that I can store all my documents safely in case I have any probs with my aging computer and to allow easier formating.
I've found this one on Amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/Buffalo-DriveStation-250Gb-Serial-External/dp/B000FVTQK4/ref=br_lf_m_350613011_2_8_ttl?ie=UTF8&m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&s=electronics&pf_rd_p=199575491&pf_rd_s=center-1&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_i=350613011&pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_r=1TFA4MYZD206XG9HA634
Is it a good buy? Do you know of a better deal?
Thanks for your help. I'm a bit of a techy noob

Or buy a normal hard drive,
http://www.microdirect.co.uk/(37411)Samsung-400GB-PATA-ATA100-7200rpm-8MB-cache.aspx
Then buy a caddy off ebay, around £7 - £8.
Its a little dearer, but you get a lot more storage. Also if the ahrd drive breaks, you have a caddyu cna just replace the hard drive. Not sure iif you can do that on an External.Rules, Rules, Rules .....0 -
The usb ones that connect with just 1 cable to the computer and need no extra power cable are soooo convenient. A year or two ago they were too pricey so I got the old bulky type with an external power transformer, now admiring my colleague's 160 gig 'pocket' usb drive and recommend if you are buying one now get that usb type.
eg this 250gb one at £67 http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?WD-PE250
(BTW I was in a Novatech store on Saturday getting PC bits - VERY impressed by prices, range & service)0 -
Above Argos link broken? Maybe OP was referring to this 160GB £55 Maxtor one (used the email a friend link seems more reliable)

Strange !The link worked before I posted it, just tried it again and it worked OK.
That is the drive, have one myself. Very good and very compact.0 -
Or this Maxtor 500gb for £60:
http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/product/seo/324729
Then download the Maxblast software from the Maxtor website so you can make image backups of your drives.Charlie0 -
In-store add £10 or delivery add £5
By the time they get to 500GB I think Firewire would be a nice option0 -
Select 'collect at store' and get it at the web price (assuming it's in stock).Charlie0

Best one I've found is the CNET Lan Disk
http://www.redstore.com/fx/inf_search.php?sch_case=insensitive&sch_boolean=and&sch_terms=lan+disk&search=GO
Top of the list - it features both ethernet & USB & it's also an ftp server too.
You need to add your own H/drive though0
