Hi All
I have the opportunity to help a company redo their hopeless wireless network. They currently use Netgear and have lots of dead spots. I'm after recommendations on business class wireless access points which are secure and fast (PoE would also be nice!). I will be doing a new survey and resiting these. any recommendations from anyone??

Go mad with Cisco hardware?
Without any real information on the construction, spaces, distance, existing pc's, software, additional requirements and budget then I don't really know what information you're looking for?
Do they need Wireless, or can the majority of the network be ethernet etc?0 -
hi thanks for the reply. they are 100% wireless due to the large nature of the building (old style leisure centre - like a v big house!). they currently have 4 x WG602's which are pretty useless... longest distance is about 200m or so....0

why not network over electric , they are all running on electricity i assume?
in bulk should be around 20 quid a plug for a decent speed for work related networking.Have you tried turning it off and on again?0 -

good thought! - not sure they are all on the same mains circuit - assume this might be an issue?0 -
I can see the plug networking adapters being very difficult to tie down. I'd suggest something a little easier to keep track off, and certainly something more dificult to make off with.Super geek.0

You can get better aerials for the wireless hubs, some with 7 or 9db gain which would extend coverage.

quite easy to tie down , as easy as the usual glued lockdown security which lots of companies use already.
yes you can go cross circuit , theres junction boxes there.....i dont like wireless , its less secure , and dont care what anyone says rads from wireless might be the next big health scare not unlike pylons.
it really depends on the number of employees , ease of install and price of equipment....although lowest price isnt everyting or we would all be driving tata nanos and brakes would be extra.Have you tried turning it off and on again?0 -
Just do a cable install and be done. Wifi is never going to provide a satisfactory building wide coverage and all you're going to get from the day you finish it until the day you pull the trigger on that gun you started pointing at your head a week later is "I can't get on the network in so and so room.", "It takes ages to transfer a file.", "My internet is slow."
There's a reason why even with 802.11n, WIMAX and all that rubbish that companies still have CAT5 installations and that's because Wifi sucks in a corporate environment for anything other than allowing muppets on too much money to check their email. Even in large warehouses that have handheld scanners and computers on forklifts for the stock control, its wired networks with wifi access points all over the place to try and get enough coverage.0 -
