I have a bank of pictures on my PC, and would like to transfer them on to DVD to put them into a DVD player and watch them on TV.
I would also like to put some music behind them.
a. What DVDs/CDs do I buy
and
b. How do I do this
Thank you

If you have Windows XP, then you should have Windows Movie Maker on your PC.
You can drag and drop your photos on to the storyboard and add a music track, then save the movie to your PC or straight on to CD/DVD.

Whether you use a CD or DVD will depend on the size of the resultant movie.
Which type of recordable CD or DVD you have to buy will depend on the make of your CD/DVD recorder.0 -
Also for xp you could try Windows photostory, it will animate you photos while displaying them.

I don't think either of those utilities will burn to DVD without the purchase of an add-on.
You'll need something like the Nero Suite.
Do you have any such program installed?
Are you using XP or Vista?0 -
Google Picasa is a good program that I use for storing/sorting all my digital photos. I can use it to burn pictures to CD (not DVD) but then play the CD on my DVD player attached to my TV. You can select the Slideshow option which automatically includes professional transistions between the pictures. The only this you can't do with Picasa is to add background music though.0

I've got Cyberlink PowerProducer which came free with our DVD writer. I've only used it for photos but you can also use it for video. You can put a backing track, add transition effects to photos, etc. Simple to use and you burn straight from the program.
