Lloyds / TSB Mis-selling??

Hi,
I hope someone can advise me.
I was round my parents house on Saturday and my father was reading his bank statement and asked me why his charges had gone up from £7 - £8 per month.
He has an acount with Lloyds / TSb that they changed 6 years ago when he visited them in town.
I rang the bank and they said the charges are due to the account he is on and the "benefits" by getting free RAC cover, mobile phone insurance, holiday insurance etc....
I explained to the lady my dad has never owned a car or mobile phone and because my mother is disabled has not had a holiday in the last 10 years.
I explained to her I thought this account was "mis-sold" to my father and could we please have the money back.
I also noticed the interest was minimal to say the least, so could we also have a chat about interest.
The lady was dismissive and said the best thing to do is to change to a different account with no chance of any money back.
I am going to ring them later in the week to see if they have a complaints department (because I called on a Saturday the lady said no one else was available to help), but before I do, I would really welcome members comments.
As always, I am very grateful for all help.
Kindest regards,
Mike

Yes the bank has a complaints department called customer concerns. It has a leaflet called voicing your concerns which has the address and telephone numbers.
This information is also available on the website.

I presume that the account they hold is the Gold service one?
Many years ago customers had a choice of keeping in £1000 (then it went up to £1500) and they would get the 'benefits' for free plus a savings account which offered a better rate. Do they remember anything like this at all?

I think misselling from what you have written is a bit harsh if it was explained to them what they were getting and they signed for it.

The bank would not know your personal circumstances unless you told them.
Could it be that they had a bit of money in the bank and this was the reason the bank offered the account to them??

please remember they will not speak to you unless you have power of attorney on your dad's account

I am sure you mean well, but sometimes this can be the assumption of a family member, when it may of been the case that your father was given this option and signed for it. These accounts are usually non-advised and the customer is given the option rather than advised to apply for it.

Also for these years this would have been in their bank statements, and if there was a change they would have been notified?

6 years is a long time not to mention it!
