Credit card abroad

What is the best credit card I can use in Mexico? By this I mean, what has the best foreign rates etc?
Basically, Mexico is quite a confusing place to go regarding currency.
They accept Dollars and Pesos, but apparently, exchange rates for travellers cheques & sterling is quite poor out there. And using Dollars means you don't always get the correct change.
So we thought it might be easier for us to take a certain amount of pesos and a credit card to pay for the excursions and pay the credit card off in its entireity when we get back.
But i'm not sure what card has the most preferable rates regarding foreign transactions, so any help would be appreciated!
