idea to dry washing

hi
would drying washed clothing that has just come out of washing machine be ok to hang in airing cupboard where hot water tank is?
as i was thinking of putting in a airer to get clothes dry but wondered if moisture would be a problem?

thankyou

  • it would be fine as long as you have someway air can circulate.leaving door ajar or fit vents into the door, we have a botom vent like this http://www.directdoors.com/exterior-doors-interior-doors-handles-locks-and-all-other-types-of-ironmongery-products/door-fittings-etc-/door-vents-c326

Hi Jane, if you have space, put in a rail and then you can hang stuff up also, should help save on the ironing.

First thing I did was this when I got a house.

Got some dowling and created a lower and a upper level about 5 dowl's deep.

Lower is for small items upper is for larger - and for hanging clothes on on their hangers.
Never ever, ever used a dryer - total waste of money.

Only thing to note is obviously the moisture has to go somewhere.
Most airing cupboards are vented so the moisture comes back into the main house, but in winter you'll end up with bad condensation, so need to keep a window ajar.

I find clothes dry in the airing cupboard in 24 hours, and that's with a double foam insulated cylinder. 1800 RPM spin washer helps though, they come out pretty dry!

If your cylinder is warm to the touch thought the existing insulation- you need better insulation. An extra jacket will pay for itself in notime.

Until about a month ago, I always dried washing over the hot water tank and pipes in the winter. It was a real god send as I don't have a tumble drier.
However, the housing association that we rent from have just had new radiators, fire, and a combi boiler put in, so the HW tank was removed. I'm really going to miss it come autumn/winter

Did it for years until I didn't have a water tank, miss my water heater cupboard as it was also great for rising bread, remember when we were kids Dad used to put our PJs on there before bed, lovely.
One day I might be more organised...........

    Hi here

My central heating boiler in the airing cupboard. Have never had a need for tumble as washing dries there overnight. I have hanging peg thingies, rail for hangers etc etc. Never had any mould, damp or anything but of course it is ventilated for the boiler.

Also we have a large balcony upstairs which is great for airing off sheets, duvets, towels etc.

    Hope this helps.

Yep been drying washing in the airing cupboard for years now. My airing cupboard gets relly warm as the boiler is in there as well. It's a godsend in the winter. I put one load of washing in there on hangers first thing in the morning and it's dry by early evening. Next load goes in to dry over night. It's the only way I can keep up with the washing mountain that's generated in this house.

Just be careful not to over load. I had a fire which started in the airing cupboard and had to have the fire brigade out to it.
still in the process of sorting it all out.
