Overpayments of Tax Credit Help/Advice needed

Hi all,

This is my first post on here and wondering if there is anyone who knows the so called 'system' and can help, as after numerous calls to Tax Credits I still have no answer.

I have been receiving over the last few weeks various award notices for different years, all stating different wages and amounts, even though if I check back through paperwork I have informed them of all my wage chages as other award notices show them as correct for the various years. The first letter that I received was regarding 2006 - 2007 this was TC933 just a letter telling me they had amended this claim to show my correct working hours and that any overpayment that is caused I will not have to pay back and to ignore any notices that come through. When calling I was told that this was because oft heir error a box on claim not being ticked??? I then rec'd an award notice TC602(E) for 04/05 saying I had an overpayment a small amount, again I rang and they stated that thsi had already been collected from an award and not to worry. Today I have received 2 notices TC602(E)'s for 05/06 (I had a joint and a single claim this year) one stating an overpayment of £2000 odd pounds which I was aware of and had been paying back at £30 a month, but they stopped this in payment in May and stated they had on their system 'suspended, working under 16 hours', I questioned this in yet another call and was told that it would remain suspended, after speaking to various people and then receiving these award notices again thsi morning I rang again, asked for a clear explanation, was told that because the amount owed was for a single claim when I was working, I do not work now but my partner does, explained this and he said that I could ring up the Debt liine and re-arrange for payments to start, I have done this, but what concerns me are two things:

Why am I receivinig all these award notices for previous years? I have done all my annual returns, and these notices are 'finalising' my award??? I already have Final award notices from these years. No-one it seems can give me an explanation.

Also why did they stop the o/p because I wasn't working? My partner was and we could have conntinued with these payments, and why can no-one in Debt management tell me why I am receiving all these notices, and no-one on the helpline?

Be grateful for your quick reply's as am drafting a letter to them today.

Thanks

  • IT seems to be a bit of a mess so the best thing to do is call TCO helpline to have a written breakdown of all outstanding overpayment. It can take 10-12 weeks for this but it should tell ou clearly what the reasons for o/p are and how much exactly they are looking to recover and why.

    Thanks sub,

I will do that in my letter to them today, the main bit I don't understand is why suddenly are they going back to 2004? Its very confusing for me to understand all the forms they send with different information on each.....could you also tell me what the award notice TC602(E) means?
  • I am not too sure I will try to check it out for you, I finish work at 5.00pm so will try to get a response for you then.

At this time of year in particular they will go over any awards from previous years with outstanding issues to try to finalise fully/properly any previous years.

Great Thanks again sub a real help x
  • From what I was able to find out, a TC602(e) is a notice for you to check your details are correct when an administrative change has been applied to a finalised award.
