paying for a vehicle?

hello,
i just purchased a comercial vehicle off ebay and just need some advice regarding payment.

the vehicle is being delivered by the seller at my cost, and he will be travelling about 300 miles to deliver as i am too busy to collect at the minute.

what is the safest way of paying for the vehicle, and is there anything i should check when the vehicle is delivered?

any advice is appreciated.

many thanks.

He is only going to accept cash or bank draft IMHO.
  • Totally agree with Hintza! But I would have thought that you would have both agreed beforehand.... 300 miles is a long way to travel to be given a cheque from the Bank of Mickey Mouse! LOL!

Depending on the cost of the car, but I would have a friendly mechanic waiting with you when he arrives to give it the once over.

i will be paying a deposit of £500 before delivery.

so is a bankers draft is the safest way of paying?what about a money transfer into there account?he will be sending me an invoice beforehand for the total and vat.

the seller is a trader so i just want some sort of proof in case the van is not as described etc.

the type of payment would really be the choice of the seller.

when we sold a car on ebay, just over £10K  he told us that he was going to pay cash, so what we did, was take him to the bank, and told him to deposit the money into our account. as the cashier can count the cash, and check for fakes.

manhattan like the others have said the seller needs to tell you which payment methods he will accept. You need to expect that lt will probably be cash though.

i will be buying, but the seller is a trader and if i find just after i have the vehicle delivered that it is a total wreck or a cut and shut i would just like to know if i would be better off paying a certain way which might help with any sort of claim

It still goes back the fact that the seller needs to tell you how to pay, I can't see him driving 300 miles and accepting a cheque which you caould bounce on him.

Contact the seller now and ask for confirmation of payment method before he does the drive.
