Flew back from Bangkok 6 weeks ago to Manchester. I flew Bangkok-Doha-London on Qatar Airways and the London-Manchester BMI.
The previous time I had done this I was told I needed to collect and recheck baggage in London because of the change in airlines but this time the lady on the desk in Bangkok assured me that she would check my baggage all the way through to Manchester and I have the baggage sticker to show that.
Upon my arrival in Manchester BMI told me that my luggage had not come to Manchester and I would have to pay £50 for it to be delivered to my home the next day. They told me to follow up with Qatar airways any refund claims.
I have since sent all the details including the baggage sticker showing Bangkok to Manchester to Qatar's offices in both Manchester and London, since they don't seem to be able to 'contact' each other, only to be told that it is solely the responsibility of the last airline despite the fact that it was their employee that was wrong in telling me she was able to book the baggage through.
I don't think it should be my responsibility to try and reclaim from BMI because it was their employee who was in the wrong to tell me should could book it through to Manchester.
Any advice?

send a letter to the head office in london giving them 14 days to refund you or you will issue small claims for the amount that you have incurred.
make sure that you keep the ORIGINAL documentation as you will need this should you have to go down the court action route0 -
I agree with Kill Bill. Send the same letter to both airlines and, if necessary, sue both and let them sort it out. As it will be within small claims jurisdiction there will be no cost implications.0

Send letters recorded delivery0

I have been using Qatar airlines to fly to Abu Dhabi for the past 3 yrs and have not had a problem
My cases were delayed last year, and they delivered them to me in Abu Dhabi by taxi, upon inspection, 1 of the cases was damaged, when In reported this, I was told to go and buy a new case of my choice, and they gave me the cost in cash.
Cannot fault them, brilliant inflight service!!!:T0 -

Have you heard of Gill Charlton, a columist for the telegraph online? She deals with travel problems like this and will speak to the companies direct. Perhaps you could email her in the hope that she'd pick up the case? From reading her past columns this seems to be the kind of thing she's interested in.
