Development differs from plans - can they do this

Does anyone here have any experience of development plans?

There is a small development going on behind the road I live in. In the approved plans for the development, there10 parking spaces to be provided. Now the development is nearing completion, they have only provided 8 parking spaces as they ran out of room! Surely they can just change their mind and deviate from the Council approved plans?

Also, what are rules for the naming of streets for a housing development? The developers are trying to use the name of my road even though it is a private road that is separately owned.

You need to speak to planning. They will have been given planning permission with the proviso of parking spaces. If they can't comply I don't know what happens though.
I assume soft councils just let them, which means a nightmare crowding existing parking spaces.

If you look on www.ukplanning.com you can search by your local council and view the planning permission and any related doucments. This should at least tell you whether after they were initially granted permission for 10 spaces whether they submitted an amended plan for 8. Or you can just phone the planning department of your local council. They are normally quite helpful.

If as you suggest they have simply run out of space and haven't complied with what planning granted permission for, then you can report it to the planning officer and they will investigate. You can also involve your local counciller. Or/and its worth checking and reading your local councils development plan which will outline info and recommendations for parking and new developments. If they are in breach, you can take this further too.

    Good luck.

Keep us posted mrsw. I have a bit of a bee in my bonnet about new developments not providing enough parking.

Councils name the roads, not the developers.

I will let you know what response I get. TBH, I don't hold out much hope, they never took much notice of our original letters of objection when the plans were submitted.
