I noticed the other night that I couldn't play any videos on youtube, kept getting a sentence about possibly having Javascript turned off or I may have an old version of adobe flash player. I downloaded version 8.1.2 with difficulty, rebooted but same problem occurred. Tried to download a later version of adobe which youtube was suggesting but couldn't do it. Got a box saying 'this page provides potentially unsafe information to an ActiveX control- your current settings prohibit running controls in this manner-as a result this page may not display properly.
Does anyone know if adobe could be the problem or if it is something else.
I don't really understand any of this, have tried changing my security settings but that seems to have made things worse!
Many thanks

Is JS enabled?
"To check if JS is enabled you can do the following in Firefox.
1. Click "Tools > Options"
2. Click on "Content"
3. "Enable JavaScript & Java" should be checked
If this is the case you should focus on trying to figure out what might be wrong with Flash..."0 -
Go here to check if your Javascript is working:

If you're using Internet Explorer and the message on the Adobe site is on a bar across the top of the webpage, left click it and allow the Active-X script to run. Then you should be able to download the program.
You may get another message saying that the download has been blocked, but again click on the bar and allow the download.0 -
I did get the message about the adobe bar being at the top but there was nothing there? honest. I will check javascript when I get home tonight or tomorrow and see what happens.
I will report back in a couple of days when I've had time to look. I've been trying to figure this out for the last two evenings and it's driving me mad.0 -
I'm not sure I know what you mean by "there was nothing there". When I go to the Adobe site, I get a bar across the top of the page like this:
When you click on that bar, you should get the option to allow the Active-X script to run:
Is this similar to what you get?0 -
I just don't get the bar at the top of the page, just my regular toolbar.0

You could try opening Internet Explorer, click on Tools.....Internet Options.
Click the Security tab.
Under "Select a zone" ensure Internet is selected.
Under "Security Level for this Zone" click on Custom Level.
Scroll down the window that pops up to "Initialize and script Active-X controls not marked as safe for scripting" and check the Enable box.
Click OK.
Click Apply if not greyed out, OK if it is.
Then try downloading the Adobe Player again.
After downloading, set the checkbox you changed back to Disable.0 -
I checked all my security settings as recommended and javascript and everything seemed to be ok. There was a help page in adobe and I fished around in there and managed to download version 9 in about 10 seconds. Tried youtube and there were the videos. Now I don't know if this another related problem or something entirely different but I can only post on these boards from my pc at work. Tried posting last night the update and kept getting that there are less than 10 characters in my post which was not true. One problem solved and another begins..0

I can't see why the Adobe update would affect your ability to post on these forums as the input form has nothing to do with Flash.
That may be a problem that you will have to email into the board techies with.
