The Travelodge in Kings Cross is right beside the busy station and I would imagine that that it may not be a good place to stay because of the noise.
What about staying at the holidayinn in Brent Cross for £67 for a room with 2 double beds in it. The hotel does a shuttle bus to the nearby underground station every 10 minutes and it is only 7 stops on the Northern line tube to it from Kings Cross (about 10-15 minutes journey). It has a car park. It is not in an ideal location as at the botton of the m1 motorway on a busy road, but you have got a huge shopping centre opposite and a 5 min walk away is a 24 hour tescos. Kids also eat free there it says too. It might be better than staying in Kings Cross. Link for the leisure discount rate (orginally supplied by Brucey Bonus post)

Have just checked reviews of Kings Cross travelodge just to see on tripadvisor and they are not good, apparently the noise is bad. out of the last 6 reviews 5 gave it 1 out of 5 rating. The Holiday inn in Brent Cross I see has 4/5 out of 5 on the recent reviews( often wondered as my sister works nearby and says she often sees the minibus driver in his uniform in Tescos and she said he is such a nice man). Having children it may be better to stay there.0 -
The travelodge simplepete has linked to (Kings Cross) is fine, there is another at Kings Cross Royal Scot which is OK too, but I think Kings Cross is a bit nicer. Yes it is a bit noisy, but Kings Cross is noisy, and there isn't really anyway around that.
The Holiday Inn at Brent Cross is just as noisy. When I had my loft converted back into a loft, the neighbours came around and scoffed, and called me retro.0 -
I agree with pboae that Brent Cross holiday Inn would be as noisy with cars as on a dual carriage way, but it does not have the rumbling of trains every few minutes that Kings Cross travelodge would have. It also has onsite parking, and the Kings cross travelodge has parking at a nearby ncp car park at £15 for 12 hours. I think if I was booking into the Brent cross hotel, I would ask for a room at the back of the building higher up as it backs on a small industrial site with offices and would be quieter. Brent cross does not have much around there after the shopping centre shuts, but with small children I expect you won't be able to stay out that late at night. The travelodge simplepete has linked to (Kings Cross) is fine, there is another at Kings Cross Royal Scot which is OK too, but I think Kings Cross is a bit nicer. I stayed at the Kings Cross Travelodge a few weeks ago. I was at the back and it was quiet. I imagine it could be quite different at the front. Not the world's greatest hotel but fine for an overnight stay. If you phoned them maybe you could request a quiet room?
Just a few minutes walk to the station or St Pancras so it could not be much more convenient.0 -
Avoid the Royal Scot at all costs, a total dump.Filiss0

Premier Travel Inn is OK - rooms are quite small for family rooms but quiet0
