Whats Better Norton Or McAfee

I know this has probably been asked before, and yes I have checked the threads but I can't seem to find anything specific, what is the best "paid for" security system?

I am due to change my security set up soon and I have had nothing but trouble with Norton internet security this year, what are peeps opinions on McAfee?

I tried AVG last night a "freebie" and I wasn't impressed as it said I didn't have a virus when I did (Had the trojan.moo from freefivers but norton refused to get rid of it!)

Any feedback appreciated

Ta very muchly in advance!

Probably McAfee. v9 is meant to be quite good. Norton gets a lot of bad press, but the more recent version does have good detection, but is a little more heavy on resources than your average av.

Personally, I'd go with Nod32 (£25). Easy to use, light and fast with great detection. What I currently run. I've never had a problem, I just leave it to do it's job. Either that or Kaspersky would be a good choice.

One of the above suggestions combined with Kerio Personal Firewall (free) will have you nice and secure. Spend another £14 on CounterSpy (anti-spyware application) and you'll have the ideal setup.

NOD32 or Kaspersky. Personally I use NOD32 but I recommend both.

The Trend stuff is very popular on server platforms but I don't think the versions for standalone PC's is as good (same with Sophos - good on a network but not on a single box)

Ive tried a few over the years, and found norton not to be very good at all...Mcafee came with a 90 day trial on this PC, and found it excellent! So when PC world advertised the internet security suite for £24.99, i got it! The good thing is, you get live support via messenger from mcafee, which was great when I had a trojan that wouldnt go!"! I'd personally highly recommend them!

CounterSpy had a very good writeup in PCPro this month.
  • You know you can get AVG at different 'strengths' so to speak? Can get the bells and whistles one for a price. Have used the free AVG for years but I have also always used it in conjunction with SpyBot Search and Destry; Ad aware, Zone Alarm firewall and Ewido. Was told recently at a seminar for keeping computers healthy that in some circles, the official line is tyou need at least 3 lines of defence in addition to the Firewall. All min work happily together, all are free and - touch wood- no probs. Good luck.
