the tale of a toucan a sony vaio & errors!

Intrigued? well you may get bored like me with this problem. ok my brother bought a sony vaio laptop recently. he goes on broadband & decides toucan as he already has phone acc with them. ok. i go to 'connect' him onto broadband on sat. nope! insert disc etc, follow inst & connection failed. after trying for 2 hrs decide to ring tech support. oops they say sent you wrong disc you need vista one! :mad: ok next disc arrives today & go to 'connect' again. Nope! despite putting in vista disc it says cant connect as no dialling tone. now i have wireless connection on mine as we have 3 pcs running off it, but my bro has a speedtouch 3300 which plugs into laptop via usb. again we call tech support after my bro started to resemble the hulk with bad sunburn after 30 mins we get cut off :mad: so ring again. this time the support says it isnt your broadband but the laptop. i said its brand new! he said nope you need to return it & tell them it needs to update the drivers as it isnt recongnizing the phone number now i am confused. i checked network connections & all it put up was a dial up ( whch i think toucan is despite being broadband) but i find that strange that no other networks were picked up. have bought the laptop to my house & of course it picked up my connection immediately. Has anyone any ideas? i said i will go to pc world 2moz for my bro to see what they say - if they can offer any advice. surely it cant be the laptop can it? its just very weird that nothing is working. oh actually the modem does have 2 solid green lights so i guess that is!
please please let me know if you have any ideas. i really fear my bro will crack up if we cant get him on broadband soon!
