Egg reinstate direct debit!

Hi everyone! This is my first post :j I've been a lurker for a long time and a regular visit to the site ... it's been a lifeline!
At the beginning of the year, I set up a debt management plan with the CCCS. As part of that, I obviously cancelled all my direct debits to my creditors. Egg is one of my creditors.
At the beginning of June, I noticed that Egg card had reinstated my direct debit (or had set up a new one). I instantly cancelled it online. I contacted Egg who denied all knowledge of doing this. As I'd now cancelled the direct debit and no money had been taken out of my bank account, I decided not to pursue this any more.
Since then, I've made sure I've checked my bank account every couple of days to make sure the direct debit hasn't reappeared ... and tonight I've noticed it's been reinstated again! Needless to say I've cancelled it.
I will obviously be getting on to Egg and my bank in the morning but thought I'd post a message here to see if anyone else has had similar experiences with Egg and if anyone has any advice!
Many thanks!

The only advice I can think of is to only spend on a card what you can afford to repay.
Just because you have entered into a debt management plan does not mean that all your creditors have to agree to it.0 -
Many thanks for the reply.
Egg and my other creditors have accepted the offered repayments through my CCCS debt management plan. My payments to creditors are made via the CCCS.
My query really related to advice on whether any organisation, irrespective of someone's financial situation, can set up or reinstate a direct debit on a bank account with my authorisation.
I'm all too aware that it's my own fault for getting myself in a financial mess. I have now faced up to that fact and am now doing something about it.Debt Jan 2008: £45,566. *** June 2013: DEBT FREE! ***

Lenders sometimes 'abuse' the AUDDIS system for electronically setting up DD's.
However, this looks like the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing at Egg.
Suggest you register a formal complaint with Egg (to get them talking to each other), and also warn your bank of the situation with Egg.0 -
Many thanks for the reply - I'll write to Egg to complain, which I'll send recorded delivery.
I'll call my bank in the morning and also write to them.

tell your bank you won't accept any DD from EGG.
If EGG do succeed then immediately instruct your bank that under the DD guarentee you want an immediate refund.0 -
Many thanks for the advice.
I called my bank this morning, explained the problem, and said I won't accept any direct debit from Egg. There was little they could do unless Egg actually took funds from my account - but should Egg do so, it would be refunded under the DD guarantee.
Though I have also written to Egg, I did call them as well. Their computer records contain my bank details but no direct debit is active. It seems there computer is doing strange things ... at Egg's own admission. They've removed my bank details from my record so should their computer attempt to reinstate a direct debit, it will have no bank details to talk to. I've asked for confirmation in writing.
V many thanks again!Debt Jan 2008: £45,566. *** June 2013: DEBT FREE! ***

Hi,
I've just checked my bank and Egg have reinstated their direct debit with me. I too am on a repayment programme and egg are one of my creditors. They have accepted the payments and haven't took any money since October last year.
My bank were very unhelpful, even when I said I haven't given permission for this they said I can cancel it but I must inform egg. The cheek ! :rolleyes:0 -

The thing is though there's not a lot your bank can do unless Egg actually use that Direct Debit and call for a payment.0 -

Though I was initially surprised my bank couldn't help, I then realised it made sense - I after all provided Egg with my bank details. My bank did explain that should Egg take any money, I'd be refunded within 48 hours without any charges.Debt Jan 2008: £45,566. *** June 2013: DEBT FREE! ***

Just picked up on your issues with reinstatements of direct debits, thought I would add my 2p :P
In March last year I called PC World and FoneSafe to cancel the direct debit payments, (both for insurance) as I was travelling to Australia. Whilst overseas I discovered that the direct debits were continuing - unfortunately for me I couldn't cancel them over the phone and had to wait until I returned in September. I signed a Direct Debit Cancellation Order in branch and was assured that this would be the end of it.
Shortly after I returned to Australia in March this year I discovered that I was still being direct debited. Since signing the order in branch I have lost about 95pound, I have contacted Abbey multiple times by email and to the useless outside UK call centre and only as recently as the 18th June has someone actually written to me. However it seems Abbey is intent on blaming ADDIS for the continued direct debits and I will have to contact the industry ombudsman to take the matter further. All this will be done from the other side of the world - when I return to the UK in October this year, I will be cancelling my account with Abbey National.
I think it's ridiculous that financial institutions can continue to practice such low levels of service and then deny accountability on the grounds of computer problems, all whilst increasing charges and making absurd profits with our money!:mad:0
