Wall preperation prior to Tiling

Can anyone from experience suggest the best way & products to use to prepare a wall prior to tiling.
It's a bathroom in a new built house which is currently tiled from the floor to half wall height, The upper half is skimmed plaster-board which has been been painted for over a year.
I intend to tile the upper half of the wall, and am wondering whether the tile adhesive will bond correctly to the painted surface. Or, would it be better to prepare the surface with something or manually bare back the paint prior to applying any adhesive. I just don't want the tile's coming loose or dropping off in years to come.
Thanks.

PVA the wall first and leave to dry just to seal the wall and remove any dust. You'll be fine I am a Plasterer and have done this 100's of times when carrying out mantaince repairs.
Have fun.
