defaulted credit card please help!

my husband had a rbs credit card. he had £1800 on the card and was rang by the bank and they said he had missed payments and could he pay of the whole ammount . he said no so they said if he paid £1200 of the debt they would forget about the £600 interest then they would settle the card. Being silly my husband agreed and paid off £1200. he never recived any documents regarding this. four years later we have applied for a mortgage and it shows a default on the card for £1800. the credit report doent say settled it says gone away. what does this mean? also my husband actually paid them £1200 and was told that would be the end of it. we are due to remortgage and its still on his credit report. we have been into the bank and they say its upo the credit card company to sort out but we have no account number for the credit card. I really dont know what to do but it doesnt seem right that
a) he was told the account would be cleared
b) he recived no notice or waring of the default
c) that they defaulted for £1800 when he paid them £1200 so it should only be £600!

thanks in advance for any advice anyone may give xxx

You must contact RBS quickly and sort this, gone away is from the GAIN database, gone away information network, when somebody tries to bump (not pay) a lender and move without telling them where they are going. However your case is genuine so I would contact their defaults department in Edinburgh and begin action straight away to get the record cleared.
Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.

Thanks for your advice i will let you know how i get on. this gone away seems strange as my husband has a current account with rbs and had it at the time so they know he never moved.
