Insurance to cover me at football

Hi guys
I play footy to a reasonable level, and have never really had any insurance.
I earn a bit of money each week playing but its not official ... cash in hand stuff, so i know i wouldnt be able to add that into any insurance equation!
But I'm always worried about the small print of these companies and wondered if anyone had any good recommendations of which companies are best ...?
Thanks

I've just started entering the competitions (July 07). When I win I'll update this signature. Look on the bright side, I shouldn't have to update it very often.

Are you worried about getting injured at football and unable to claim you main income?
or covering your football income?
I think you need to explain what your concerns are as it's not clear to us.0 -
surely the club or your local FA has some sort of insurance covering the players?0

Ah sorry - I dont know much about these things. So theres specific sports insurance and general personal insurance I'm guessing?
Knowing that that income from football wouldnt be covered presumably general insurance might suit me better (if I break a leg or something). I think my work would still pay me full pay for a few months though, so would i still be able to claim insurance (because i'd be missing work but still being paid)?
Wondering now if it's worth taking out insurance at all!I've just started entering the competitions (July 07). When I win I'll update this signature. Look on the bright side, I shouldn't have to update it very often.0 -
I think what you really need to be looking at is PHI (permanent health insurance).
This insurance pays you an income until retirement if you cannot work.
Otherwise after your sick pay stops you will only get state benefits and be on a low income.
You cannot get 100% income because there is a legal maximum of 75% (this is because there needs to be some incentive for people to work if they are able).
If you got injured in football you might be off for a period longer than your employers sick pay, but it's unlikely you'd never be able to work again.
You should be covered for a sports injury.
You need to chek what your employer offers.
I have free PHI with my employer so you might be lucky.
Be careful when you talk to people (even your boss or HR) about "health" insurance.
Some people might think you are talking about BUPA which pays for hospital treatment. This is not the same as PHI which pays out an income, so you need to be sure other people understand what you mean as there are several types of "health" insurance.0
