British Gas boilercare

I have an ooooold boiler - ancient.

It works really really well but I suspect it may be involved with the horrendous gas bills I get (about £25 for a month with no heating and little gas cooking). I'm a little worried it may conk out any time soon - I know that the timer has blown on the heating (If I need it or as I do, run it every few weeks to keep it going I do it manually).

What does boilercare mean? It's an old out of date boiler so I don't know if they'd even accept me plus if it does need a full replacement during the 12 month contract do they replace it free? or is it just parts and labour for that time for my £10 a month + £50 call out?

It's not worth me replacing it as I hope to move out in the next year or so and with the current credit squeeze I don't want to fork out for a new one!

Tim, I'm not sure what the criteria for their cut-off point is, but I have just paid their 'one-off' all parts and labour service for a call-out, and they have ended up basically replacing my boiler old-for new only on a parts by part basis. I think it must have cost them now at least £1k in parts, and all I've paid is the initial £160.00 !!!

Just to add my experience with an old boiler which has a fan on its last legs.

Powergen - wouldn't touch it with a barge pole, would not accept us on to the scheme.

British Gas (2 weeks later) - Took us on no problem
