Just downloaded AVG 8.0 onto neighbours laptop and now it won't let me get on net

why is this please? the wireless isn't even connected (it has a little red cross in the computer on the left hand, bottom of screen)

Uninstall it to see if the wireless comes back on then install something else like http://www.avast.com/
http://www.free-av.com/
Do you mean you installed it as well or just downloaded it? If you just downloaded it its probably not avg could be lots of things try restarting the wireless router and the computer.

I did uninstall it as she came round and said she had installed it and can't get on net, I uninstalled it and got on then reinstalled it! should I uninstall again and get avast then?

If the internet started working after uninstalling it then yes install avast
