in Credit cards
Hi ,
I have recently been sent a letter stating they are closing my egg card account. This is fine as I dont use the account anyway.
I took the card out in March 05 to pay for a wedding and some home improvements, set up a payment well above the minimum and put it to bed for a while.
I have come back to it now and realised I have PPI on it which I never requested in the beginning. My payment seems to just match what they take off me????. When I called egg I was told that it was done in November 05 8 months later and that they dont have any notes on the account except a "294" letter which was posted to me. They said I requested It online which is complete rubbish. I have never had any policies of this kind with cards or loans. I have 3 seperate independant polices for Life, accident, sickness and terminal cover to cover my family.
I have requested a DSIR as that is the only way to see what has gone on in my account from before the last 12 months which costs £10...
Any comments on this or similiar would be great as I feel I have been subjected to a con and am not happy.
regards

I decided no chance and I downloaded a template letter , see what happens now.....

The government should ban PPI. It's a total rip-off.Krusty & Phil Madoff, 1990 - 2007:

Due to the way in which the minimum payment is calculated (see the T&Cs on their website) when payment protection is on the account the minimum payment only covers the interest + any charges + the payment protection cost, which means that your actual balance doesn't decrease.
If you haven't already then ask them to cancel the cover. It's 30 days notice though so you'll get another charge on the next statement.
It's no good taking up the complaint with anyone over the phone in the customer services bit as they won't be able to do anything (the costs or potential refund will be a lot higher than anything they would have authority to deal with).
Did you perhaps do a balance transfer at the time the cover was applied? When doing a BT online it will give the choice of taking out the cover and it's easy to just skip past it without realising what's been selected.

I don't mean this to sound the wrong way, but hopefully you've learned to always check credit card statements regardless of whether or not you actually use that card.
That letter they mentioned is a copy of the payment protection T&Cs being sent to you. Let's hope it doesn't turn out to be an expensive mistake not checking the statements.0
