I think you need a NUS Extra card (costs £10) not just the regular one to take advantage. I recommend the Nectar card route too -- keep an eye out for double points offers (Amazon often does one a bit nearer Christmas.)
Also, have you tried Amazon's second-hand service? Textbooks are often MUCH cheaper if you go through the second-hand sellers (some are as good as new -- I know I sold a few text books on Amazon which I'd barely opened...)
