If you haven't installed that Firefox you mention on your desktop in the last month, Ken, I'd suggest uninstalling it from Start > Control panel > Add/remove programs > Mozilla Firefox, then installing the latest version from this link.

Fair winds!
Don't forget to back up your bookmarks0 -
They are stored deep in your User directory, and not uninstalled when uninstalling. Still might be a good idea, though, but obviously not if you haven't actually used FF before, and therefore don't have any.Super geek.0

It was sra, MSE's resident techie expert, who started me off on FF a few years ago and if sra says its good, then its good!
You see lass, it's all change already.

I use FF with no add-ons and it is fine for me.
I think I may like to change the look of the screen at some point though, I believe there are loads of different 'skins' out there. Does anyone have a particular favourite?0 -
I don't tend to bother with themes and skins and what-not much - I built this old thing about four or five years ago so she struggles at times, bless her
(graphics card is 'ill': hopefully a new, not-quite-so-antique one is arriving tomorrow! :j)
I've done some harsh XP tweaks to try and 'de-clutter' and make more secure (Microsoft is such an intrusive beast!).
How are you getting on Ken? I stumbled upon this thread during one of my random, rambling searches and was just wondering... You're not still using that nasty old MS thing are you? I'm not sure you'd like my FF much: although I don't go in for too many graphical fancies, I do like to clutter up my search bar and my 'favicons menu' is almost off the side of the screen: needs a good trim!
EDIT:
Oh, forgot to say what add-ons I have. ABP (adblock plus), Flagfox, McAfee Site Advisor, and Interclue (just added to see if it's good..). (and del.icio.us, but I can't really get into it for some reason..).

Yes Hann... still MS...have saved |Firefox 3 , in the comp somewhere.
Am an oldie, not so keen on change unless I can see as clear advantage. Think how many makeovers Hotmail have had for instance. And if it aint broke, don't fix it.
Now if Google bought out a browser!!!0 -
Ahh well, I suppose if you're happy with it, why change
I instantly fell in love with Firefox's tabbed browsing and I haven't looked back. I don't even have the latest ie to compare it to: I believe they've copied the tabbed browsing idea now...?
Moving away from MS is something I really want to do. I bought some dodgy RAM from ebay a few weeks ago and it wiped my Ubuntu partition, but I intend to put it back again soon. Then I will have nothing MS and will only have to boot into Windows occasionally for a couple of things that unfortunately need it.

Hello again,
good little thread this. I'm very much enjoying all your comments.
Well, it's been a couple of weeks and I have spent time with a few web browsers.
I have to say after much thought I seem to have the best browsing 'experience' with Opera.
Opera does seem to 'render' (I thnik that's the right word) the pages so quickly and I like the 'Speed Dial' page option. I imagine there's probably a FF add-on that does the same thing.
Now that Opera is combined with my new cable broadband line I am actually enjoying going on line again. My trusty old Inspiron 1150 doesn't know what's hit it!0 -
Nice you found the ideal Em.
I have Bill Gates still, and loads of shortcuts on the desktop, jump from one to the other to the other. See,s quick, hardly ever a holdup.
Also have ticked something in advanced/internet options, to delete temp files each time, supposed to be good security.0 -
What surprised me was how 'conditioned' I was to Internet Explorer (IE). It took me a few days to get used to anything else. I kept wanting to go back to IE - not because it was better but because it was what I was familiar with.
It was like trying to give up a bad habit.
The main thing for me is the Opera seems to work far, far quicker than IE or FF on my machine - pages appear in a flash while with IE they seems to take far longer to load up. FF are faster than IE but still slower than Opera.0
