Places to stay in Auckland, any tips please

Going to Auckland next February will be there for about 12 days. There will be 4 adults, so would like either a 2 bedroom apartment or 2 hotel rooms.

Are planning on hiring a car to look around the suburbs of Auckland but haven't decided whether to stay in the city or on the outskirts. Either way would like to be able to park hire car without too many problems and/or travel into Auckland easily to explore the centre.

Any suggestions welcome

PS Will be having stopovers in Kuala Lumpur on both legs of journey, hotel already booked, but ideas for sightseeing please

We stayed in a Hostelling International place virtually in the town centre. It was situated just off the main street up from the Harbour / front. The facilities are great here and it will also give you great advice from travellers on where the best places to go are.

They are not full of young people anymore they cater for everybody, oap's and the younger traveller.
