we had a m&p pliko pram (suitable for newborn) for both our girls and it was lightweight(compared to the carrycot prams),folded brilliant will fit into the smallest car, looks stylish and is not clumsy and everywhere i went people with heavy looking prams commented on it wishing they had saved their money and just gone for umberella style pushchair from start! later i got a maclaren buggy (when daughter was 17mths old) the pliko was easy enough to go shopping with and some of the prams are overpriced cos as others have said you only use them for a little while and then you'll want light weight buggy!!the pliko is not carrycot pram but does recline enough for a newborn and after a few months you'd have to store the carrycot like with the moses basket so bear that in mind, even though they look gorgeous! mine went straight into a cot also to get moneys worth, they were both fine and were used to it from day one plus i then didnt have to find storage for all the extra equipment! hope this helps and good luck with the baby!!0

Thanks for the info everyone.
My very kind in-laws had offered to buy part of the equipment we needed so after a lot of debating and arm twisting on their part, we let them buy the pram.
We've gone for the M&P MPX chassis with the 3 in 1 system - travel cot and 'pushchair' attachment. The little one can sleep in the cot part/travel in it and once they're big enough, go into the pushchair. We bought a separate Maxi Cabrio car seat as it seemed to get the best safety rating overall (the panic that I got into over choosing thatand reading the safety charts - I became obsessed with filled stars, outline stars, outline spots and filled spots - "oh, that one has an outline star and this one has a filled one, but it has a black spot for that column..." - JUST TELL ME WHICH ONE IS THE SAFEST PLEASE!!!
So, decision has been made and it's all been bought from a local supplier who couldn't have been more helpful. Yeah, it was a few pounds more expensive for the car seat (about £15) but they show us how to fit it and keep everything until the bambino arrives and we need it. Also, they took loads of time to demonstrate the products (and knew what they were talking about too) on a busy Saturday morning. I don't think we'd have got service like that in a department store.
Thanks for everyones advice and assistance - it's been really helpful to get different perspectives on your likes and dislikes and the info about the strollers will be put to good use once the time comes.
Only 9 weeks left to go and I'm getting REALLY excited now...

This email explains when/why....puts me off buying a pramette if you can't return it if there's a problem.
Thank you for your enquiry regarding Mamas and Papas products.
With effect from the 16th May 2005, Mamas and Papas have taken the commercial decision to apply a “No Returns” policy to all goods purchased either by “Mail Order” or “Internet Shopping”.
As a result of this change we have taken the decision to safe guard all existing and future customers by removing the Mamas and Papas brand from our web site.
The “No Returns” policy means that no products can be returned to Mamas and Papas for credit. In complying with this Kiddicare are securing a “Full Returns Agreement” and therefore safe guarding your purchase in the event of a equipment issue during your warranty period.
The Mamas and Papas range is available to purchase from our “Retail Store” in Peterborough at the lowest prices. As we GUARANTEE to UNDERCUT the price of any other store, website or mail order catalogue, bring any quote that you have with you and we will ensure you get the best deal and save ££’s.
