I have a Galaxy 2001 registered. I bought it from new and it's been great but having 2 LOs to get out of the car it would be much better if it had sliding doors. Yes they are van like but it's a right pain trying to find parking spaces big enough to enable you to get the kids out of the car. I guess I average about 40 mpg around town and nearly 50 mpg on the motorways. It's also a really comfortable car. Don't think they hold value well. The list price of mine was about £26K and it probably worth about £6K now. It seems a lot of value to lose to me in 6 1/2 years

VW Touran - only downside is tiny bootspace when 7 seats are in use.

Some good deals around at the moment as a face lift model is due out.

I purchased my 2nd Zafira (new) 2 years ago it is a 2.0 Turbo SriXP Petrol it is a great car as it combines space with sports ability, the only thing that has concerned me is the massive depreciation that has occured on it the car was listed new at £22k and is now worth less than £10k if you are like me and watch the pennies then this could be upsetting, definately go for a used model and haggle a good deal on whatever model you buy. :D

I have a Toyota Verso and it's a fantastic car! I've had it for 4 years now and it's got a huge amount of room. It's pretty economical on fuel and not had a days trouble with it!

The latest Ford Galaxy and S-Max have been rated poorly for reliability and build in the latest Which? Car Survey and JD Power survey.

You might want to look at the Kia Sedona which is cheap to buy and has good reliability - though they make better used car buys as residuals are poor and you'll loose a ton of money buying one new. So go for used one thats about a year or two old from a Kia dealer approved scheme to get the best value for money.

How about a used Chrysler Grand Voyager - plenty of room, but has iffy build/reliability and servicing tends to be on the pricey side.Stay away from the petrol models and go for the diesel which is better suited for hauling such a huge car about. Also note that the Voyager has particularly bad crash test ratings. On the plus side is has bags of room when all seats are in use, and the "stow-n-go" models have the rear most two seats fold flat into the floor.

If you go for a VW Sharan, stay away from low spec ones that are black with auto gearboxes and diesel engines, chances are its been an ex-Addison Lee taxi.
