incontinence getting worse!

Hiya - I've posted on here before about my dog, Nell - she's an English Springer Spaniel that we rescued & we think is about 9 years old

We had to take her to the vets a couple of weeks ago as she had a water infection which was making her incontinence worse, she was given anti-bs which cleared the infection up so now we are back to her usual wet patch when she gets up - I explained to the vet but she said that there was no more they could do as she's on the max dosage

as her hind quarters are white you can tell when she's having an episode

she has 1 incurin tablet & 3 x 0.5ml of propalin syrup every day

has anybody had similar problems & found any solutions

i've lifted all the carpets downstairs to keep it easier to clean

How much is she drinking? if she is drinking too much her bladder may not be able to cope with the volume. 50ml per kilo is an average amount of water per day although it will vary with how much water is in her diet

I've had the same problem with my Dane for quite a while now. Incurin didn't work. She had antibiotics to clear up an infection and a test showed she had struvite (?) crystals. She's now on 6 weeks of a special Royal Canin urine infection diet only and I must admit I have only had a couple of accidents with her. She'll be retested after the 6 weeks. Has your girl been speyed?

I use bio wash powder on her bedding and bed.

I wouldn't say she was an excessive drinker, & the vet did a kidney function test at the same visit which came back ok

as she's a rescue dog we can't be sure & we don't know her true age - the vet examined her & said he would have thought so judging by her boobies! - also we looked for spotting for the 1st few months but nothing

the lady vet we saw last visit said unfortunately she was a victim of the triple threat - she's been speyed, she's old & she's a woman! - apparently the urine problem is more common in female dogs

Sorry to hear about your springer, my springer is 4 now & has been incontinant since she was about one year old the vet thinks it's a result of been spayed unfortunatly. She's been on incurin since then & most of the time it works so it's not a problem just tablets every day for life. The vet did suggest one of the Hills diet food if they did not work but so far we have been fine. Hope you get things sorted for your dog.
