Credit score help

Hey guys not sure if this is the correct section? In feb 2008 my score was 856/1000 and I default payment this wasn't my fault basicly my wages didn't go in and a direct debit to littlewoods didn't come out :( and then my rating took a hit to 594/1000, just worrying abit now when it come time for a credit check when I go for a flat let.

Any help or guidance would be great

Does that payment actually show as a default?? As long as you made the payment when you got paid it should only show as a late payment which will knock your rating a little but I don't think it should be hit that far.

When are you going to go for a new flat?? If it is a few months you have some time to be perfect at repaying your debts and make the file look a little stronger. I am not sure what they actually look for when they do a flat let check mind you, it may be that they aren't quite as stringent or they may ask you to provide additional security rather than turning you down - you could check on the buying, selling, renting board. It also may be worth considering going with a private landlord rather than a letting agent as they are less likely to do a credit check.

  • Hi tubby1987,

Did you just miss one payment and did you bring the account up to date within 30 days?

Don't pay too much attention to the credit score as I have one for 999 currently (it was 468 in january and I hadn't defaulted on anything it was just because I'd had multiple searches done) and got rejected for a loan from Abbey but accepted by Mint.

Each company has its own scoring system for deciding risk, provided you don't default on anything else you'll find after 4 to 6 months your score will rocket back up - so don't pay too much attention as to what your score is on experian as its only a guideline

Thanks for the replys, it was for littlewoods and soon as I saw the money didn't come out I rang littlwoods to make a payment they said it would be taken on with the following months direct debit and just said they wouldn't take a card payment. Would be about 2-3 months as it is a differnt city (closer to family) and would like a job before I move :)

  • i honestly believe this credit scoreing is just a big con,
it is a case of pay things on time , do not take out to much credit, do not apply for mutiple cards, if you get a cj pay it off when you can and get it marked as settled it all comes of after 6 years a credit list is not a black list its main purpose is for a lender to decide if to lend or not and there all very different score have nothing to do with in the sence they all score diffrently

In that case I wouldn't worry about it, it sounds like it is only a late payment rather than a default, I am sure that if everything else is vaguely in order there won't be a problem getting through letting agency checks.

Good luck for finding somewhere lovely to live.
