Hi MSE, been reading for a while and got my finger out and joined up today

Just a little intro I'm 21, called Johnny but most just call me tubbs or tubby and might be moving shortly for a new job so want to get a handle on my debts as it would mean moving into my first flat :eek:

Income: £900 - 1200 (big gap i know

)

Debts:

Halifax credit card - £1026.28 (£1500 Limit)
Littlewoods - £1488.16, £599 of which is my OWN debt for a laptop I needed for work (£1900 Limit)

Total - £2514.44

Outgoings:

Gym - £28.50
Mobile - £27.50
Paying £100 PM on Halifax CC (min payment is around the £25 mark)
Paying £160 PM on Littlewoods (on direct debit but will start to over pay soon)
Travel - £50
Rent (living with my mummy still lol ) - £150
Plus give her £100 towards leccy etc,,,
Internet - £30

Total - £646

Saved so far this year £2200 (Keeping this incase I have to move for flat bond/rent and abit of rainy day cash)
Debt paid off so far this year - £1255 (Other credit card I cleared)
Weight lost so far this year 7st 2lb - Now 20st 3lb :eek: :T

ooops forgot to say-looks like you are on almost exactly the same amount of debt as me, if you fancy a challenge come and join us on the 'moneymabels debtfree by 2009 challenge' theres a few of us trying to do,well, exactly what it says on the tin really! you'd be very welcome :-)

Think its about time I canceled my mobile contract, but think its in contract until oct is there any way around this?

This isn't really entirely ethical if you can afford to pay for it still but I know some people in really bad debt have got their contracts cancelled by letting their network know that they can't afford to pay, will default soon and then the network will have to start using debt collectors and the like to get the money. Some networks would rather cut their losses than have to keep chasing up money. Probably a bit extreme but it has worked for some.

Also, if you're with orange they are complete b*stards about cancelling & generally. I think you have to give a months notice, but they don't send you anything to tell you that your contract is about to expire or that it won't end automatically so they will keep charging you. I've only ever had one contract phone which was with orange, I assumed would end after the 12 months and they would contact me or something. I know I should have probably read the small print but I still wasn't amused as I ended up having to pay an extra 2 months which I didn't want.

Thanks Nichelette I'm with T-mobile so shall give them a ring and see what the deal is.
