winter veg in pots ?
We were wondering what winter veg we can grow in containers. Once we've eaten what we're growing at the minute the pots will be empty and it seems such a waste. We did think about parsnips in the potato barrel but not sure about anything else other than cabbage.

Um, I don't see why not? Not something I've ever attempted, but I don't see why it wouldn't work?Proud to be dealing with my debts :T

If you can grow carrots in containers I don't see why parsnips would be any different. Cabbages have fairly shallow roots so don't need a deep container. You could always do some perpetual spinach (chard) as this keeps well over winter too.
You might be a bit late now for sprouts and sprouting broccoli unless you can find some plug plants in a nursery and get them in soon.
How about another crop of spuds for autumn/christmas? Use a different container to the one you've grown this summer's crop in though.“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -

Thanks for the suggestions. Think I'll give turnips a miss as I'm not over fond of them and nor is OH.
I did suggest potatos to OH but he seemed to think it wouldn't be possible due to frost during the winter months so does that mean we'd have to plant another lot as soon as we harvest the ones we've got ?Mary

in b&q they do seeds specially for containers, and they do a packet of parsnip seeds. might be worth a look. I bought a packet, but haven't got around to sowing them yet!! i sowed the carrots for containers last night though, so will wait eagerly to see what comes up!!0
