Speed camera detectors

Why do you need a detector? They are big bright yellow boxes with white stripes in the road, how can you fail to see them?
Except for the ones that are hidden behind signs or trees or the lovely Trevelo cameras mounted high above the road and facing towards you, try seing one of them at night.Sadly there is no substitute for paying attention and driving within the law.
If the law was actually there for a real reason maybe so (speeding is the only law I have nowingly ever broken in my life) I already pay for the Police via my tax and council tax without these money making boxes.:mad:And there's also apparently legislation in the pipeline to make certain types illegal and AFAIK, only the GPS location types will be left alone
You can forget that, unless they admit that they are there to raise money they will never get that through. How can it be illegal to warn you of a danger ?? The camera detectors only warn you of something the police / council consider dangerous or so they say.
Bring back the police car whose driver can see bad driving and deal with it, a camera is nothing more than a money box.Totally Debt Free & Mortgage Free Semi retired and happy0 -
Not quite right, the threshold for prosecution is 10% + 2mph, so that's 35 in a 30, 46 in a 40 and so on.
Have you got a reference to back this up?
Just wondering as I know a couple of people who've been given tickets for doing 31-33 past a local fixed (is that significant?) 30mph camera...0 -
i was told it was 10% +1 by a police friend. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

You can check here: http://www.acpo.police.uk/asp/policies/Data/national_speed_awareness_course_guidance_01x02x06.pdf
If someone's got a ticket for 34 or lower in a 30 limit, this is a try-on by the SCP. My advice would be, don't pay the fixed penalty, they'll huff and puff and threaten to take it to court, but the CPS won't prosecute it.
I have been providing assistance, including Lay Representation at Court hearings (current score: won 57, lost 14), to defendants in parking cases for over 5 years. I have an LLB (Hons) degree, and have a Graduate Diploma in Civil Litigation from CILEx. However, any advice given on these forums by me is NOT formal legal advice, and I accept no liability for its accuracy.0 -

My sister in law received a ticket for doing 32mph in a 30 (A325 in Farnborough, Hants). She was advised on Peripoo to contest it in court, which she did, and instead of getting 3pt/£60, she received 3pts and £200 (including costs). These guidelines are set by ACPO. 10% +2mph is the lower limit for a ticket, 10% + 6mph is the upper limit where someone might be offered a Speed Awareness Course instead of points.

I can't find any thread on Pepipoo that refers to 32 in a 30 in Farnborough, so I don't know exactly what your sister in law was advised, but it's generally accepted that car speedo readings can be up to 10% wrong, and the cameras themselves only claim an accuracy of +/- 1mph, so it looks like she was stitched up by a kangaroo court.

Snooper S2 , currently available from
http://www.snooper.co.uk/snooper-s2.htm
for £60 with free updates for life (cost of a speeding fine)
I recently got one to replace a more expensive Road Angel which needed an expensive subscription renewal. Found it to be just as good. I'm not an habitual speeder, I just have one for use when driving in strange areas to prevent a silly and expensive mistake.
