Don't think i'll bother for a 10p chocolate bar as i have been bombarded with Junk emails lately for sending for some freebies which you never get, they just appear to put your email address into a database and send you junk mail0

I also think it's kinda nice to support a new and small operation like this space forum web site. It seems to be a "one man band" set up.
Loads of people have got their chocolate, Ive got mine too and I havent had any spam. Its totally irresponsible of you pesky to accuse sites of spamming when they're doing genuine offers and trying to get their budding forums of the ground. I hope you feeling self-satisfied.0 -
Got my Freddo yesterday. Thanks to Nicholas at The Space Forum. It is a promising site, and if a few MSE members who are interested stay with it, it could prove useful, especially to beginner astronomers or sky-watchers.
Unlike bigger concerns, Nicholas has introduced a sensible freebie inducement, AND kept his promise! Even though it cost a full 60p to send me a 10p Freddo!Much of the social history of the Western world over the past three decades has involved replacing what worked with what sounded good. - Thomas Sowell, "Is Reality Optional?", 19930 -
But that is exactly the problem.droopsnout wrote:It is a promising site, and if a few MSE members who are interested stay with it, it could prove useful,....
Many people are simply signing up, making 2 posts often along the lines of "Just posting to get a free choccy bar", and waiting for a 10p Freddo to arrive.
A forum is only as good as its members and the content of their posts. Take this site for example, it didn't start by giving away 10p chocolate bars but by having information that was of interest to others."Now to trolling as a concept. .... I am entitled to express my opinion, I wasn't accusing the company of doing anything i was just expressing an opinion that for the sake of getting a 10p chocolate bar i would rather not bother submitting my email address , there's nothing wrong in that.
This website posts lots of offers and it is upto the individual whether to take them up or not, that's not upto you to pull people to bits over it.

Indeed. I'm not saying anything different!
I'm simply stating that if a few MSE-ers who ARE interested stay with the site - along with other folks, of course - then it could prove interesting.
And if Nicholas draws attention to his site with an offer that will get him onto all the freebie websites, so much the better, as there is a greater chance of getting a viable number of contributors together.
Anything wrong with that?
As for MSE, it is, of course, unbeatable, and the depth and range of knowledge shared by its members must be unsurpassed. But then, Martin was able to publicise it very widely, and his subscribers come from all sections of society, and know when they are onto a good thing!Much of the social history of the Western world over the past three decades has involved replacing what worked with what sounded good. - Thomas Sowell, "Is Reality Optional?", 19930
