    Thanks Pollycat.
I think you might be more accurate with the whole expensive thing. But thanks for the suggestions.:D

Howver, here's one thread that will give you a good start:

Unlike geri1965, we did find it quite expensive, we spent almost €80 on travel, although €38 of that was on the Girona airport to Barcalona centre bus, and we went on 2 cable cars.

We spent €90 on entrance fees but did go to a lot of Gaudi places (for example, entrance to Casa Batllo was €16.50 each) and to the Picasso Museum.

Barcelona is a place I always want to go back to, I have been 10 times and never bore of it.

Get a train to Sitges. Platform 5 (Via 5) from Sants. Great little day out, takes 40 mins.

Just avoid touristy cafe tables on the ramblas - check drinks prices! - keep your purse etc out of site especially when watching street entertainment and you will have a fab time.

You've not said how long you are going for, but if longer than a weekend and you want a day from the city jump on a train to Sitges. About half an hour trip, small town with beach and rail fares are very reasonable.

Just wanted to say I'm hugely jealous - it's fantastic.

Definitely get the Tourist bus - Bus Turistic http://www.tmb.net/en_US/turistes/busturistic/busturistic.jsp - it's great value for money if it's your first time as it will take you to pretty much all the sights, there are 3 routes and they're all included. They also give you a discount booklet which gives you money off and BOGOFs on pretty much all of the sights.

The Gaudi houses, while good, are expensive so just look at the outsides for free, and go to Parc Guell for more free Gaudi.

The Nou Camp is great but it's very expensive to get in.

Montserrat is a fantastic day out - you can get a combined ticket for the train there (takes about an hour) and the cable car which takes you up to the top of the mountain. Don't bother with the all inclusive ones that give you entrance to the museums and a meal etc, just take a pack lunch and there are plenty of things up there to do for free like the Stations of the Cross walk and the cathedral with the Black Madonna.

There is a supermarket at the top end of the Ramblas (the end near Placa de Catalunya), where you can stock up on bread, cheese, fruit etc to save money as well. It's closed on Sundays though.

One more tip - don't get a taxi or the train from Barcelona airport to the city centre, get the airport bus - takes half an hour and is only 4 Euros. Taxis take ages, and the train takes just as long but drops you off right down by Barceloneta beach, which is quite a trek from the centre. The airport bus drops you in Placa de Catalunya, so you're very central. Whereabouts are you staying?

If you want to know anything else, feel free to PM me, I've been many many times on a budget!

One place that's not expensive, in fact it's very, very cheap, is "the secret cava bar" Can Paixano. At the bootom of the Ramblas, turn left and head for Reina Cristina, beside all the electrical shops. It'g got real character, a bit of a "spit and sawdust" type of place, but gets very, very packed on an evening.
    A Barcelona must!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One thing i liek if your going to be there on a sunday is to take a slow stroll from the bottom of Las Ramblas round to the barceloneta beach and jsut take in thew sights and watch the locals enjoy their weekend.
  • near the bottom of las ramblas turn left along a side street and you come out in a square with cafes, do what we did, lurk around for a good table outside in the sun, drink beer, eat tapas and do some people watching - we found it a fab way to spend 3 hours!

Can't remember the name of it but the waiters and waitresses appeared all to be chinese!

I didn't find the Camp Nou Tour expensive, we thought it was pretty good value, we were there last year about this time, it was around 10 euros. There were four of us and we all love football so we spent a long time in the stadium. The official store at the Camp Nou is expensive, there are loads of shops in Barcelona that sell the offical licensed strips etc a lot cheaper than the on site shop.

Sagrada Familia is worth taking a look at, an amazing building that still isn't finished, work is scheduled to finish in 2026! Not bad as building started in 1882!

The metro is really easy to use and cheap, last year it was 1 euro per person for a one way journey.

As a few others have said Las Ramblas is very expensive for food and drinks, worth a walk down but too expensive to eat! There are plenty of lovely tapas bars and restaurants in the side streets that are a fraction of the cost.

We ate at a great tapas restaurant, it was just beside the entrance to Passeig de Gracia metro station, great food and reasonably priced.

Barcelona is a fantastic city, have a great time
