A mate of mine just got his new MBNA Platinum card 0% 9mth (new customer) rings up to do 1st B/T :-
MBNA: £35 Fee applies sir
mate: EH! but i`m a new customer?
MBNA: Yes sir but £35 still applies
mate: Forget it then !!
This was on the defered start family targeted offer,so he`ll try again sometime & maybe better luck with a diff rep0 -
Hobo,
It's now actually a £50 fee! >:(0 -
Just double-checking... To arrange a Super Balance Transfer I'm guessing I need to phone them up after the card has arrived - the online application only seems to be doing 'normal' balance transfers. Is this right?

I am now confused
If I get a new Virgin card (0% BT) will I have to pay any charge to do a BT/SBT if requested in the first week or so?0 -
Any help please, i have a Cap1 card and a Marbles card and wish to do a 0% Bal transfer to a new card fingers crossed, who is the best as i nearly completed the virgin application last night but right at the end it said you could not do a 0 % bal trf, if you are already with MBNA as i have a Marbles card and i thought this was under the MBNA company i did not complete the form, very annoyed as that bit of info was at the last stage of the application. I have been reading all the posts about virgin and the confusing customer services explanations regarding who + what they charge so any help with all all the above PLEASE0

woodkitten,
The confusion arises because a few months ago Virgin [and other MBNA credit cards] changed the wording of their all their agreements so that they then said : "We may [at any time] charge for balance transfers" whereas previously they had for some time said: "Except during the promotional period, we may charge for balance transfers". Strictly speaking, therefore, there is no such thing as a 'free' balance transfer anymore. If you look at their leaflets and application forms they do now also imply that a fee will be charged on any balance transfer - even on a brand new card! [They include the effect of a £35 fee on the "what you could save" tables, for instance]
But MBNA are being cheeky by the use of the word "may" [to be fair, Barclaycard do this too, and they are the leading brand] which allows them to waive the fee [now a general condition] only in particular cases.
What might be of use here is if people start to report when they have been charged a fee [and likewise when not] for balance transfers on new MBNA cards. That way we will be able to see how often they actually waive the fee.
But, like Barclaycard, I suspect this change is here to stay. But the other side of this is that MBNA should be prepared to continue to offer special rates on balance transfers to exisiting customers - since there are still many 'free' cards out their to pick from........under construction.... COVID is a [discontinued] scam0 -

You should receive an agreement to sign about a week after application. There is a slip attached to this on which you can apply for a SBT. I didn't get charged when I did it this way. You could do it by phone if you prefer though I suppose. This site has saved me a fortune :money: ...it's also cost me a fortune!

News to me. According to the Marbles website, the card is issued by HFC bank (member of HSBC group).0
